This is probably the coolest movie I've ever seen. There's a scene where one of the characters is getting away on a horse, and you see Blondie taking a puff of his cigar and putting it out... On the fuse of a loaded cannon. This is immediately followed by 3 minutes of Tuco running around a graveyard accompanied by an incredible soundtrack. It's a simple story of revenge and redemption, but it's told well, with some interesting symbolism and character dynamics. Overall, it gets THE BADASS SEAL OF APPROVAL!!! And we gotta pay respects to the classics, so I'm giving this one an 8. Probably one of my favorites of all time.
This was my second time reading Scott Pilgrim. The first time I remember really liking it, but after another read, I'd rank it on equal footing with my 2 favorite graphic novels (Sweet Tooth and Essex County, if you're curious. (And interestingly, all 3 are Canadian.)) Scott Pilgrim is incredible at integrating comedy into an otherwise serious narrative. Scott Pilgrim is a much deeper character than I picked up originally, and his journey is significantly more moving. But, I suppose we all follow a similar path to maturity, something that only becomes clearer through hindsight. Scott Pilgrim is a must-read for pretty much anyone literate.
I think I played this game orginally about 6 years ago? My sister got it for herself and I believe she never finished it, but I did. I think I was way too young to understand much of anything about the game. But having played through it now, its incredible under a new light. The game itself captures the atmosphere of the Rust Belt in the fall strikingly well, and while Mae's struggle with mental illness is logically universal, it excels at feeling personal nonetheless. The gameplay has incredible variety, with so many creative litle minigames scattered throughout. Please give this game a try. It's one of the best ones I've ever played.
Norco is a really interesting game. It's in the same microgenre as games like Disco Elysium and Night in the Woods, which I'm learning is one of my absolute favorites. Fitting in with that microgenre, Norco relishes in it's strong dialogue and atmosphere. It's surreal, but not in such a way that it becomes confusing to follow. In fact, one of my favorite parts about Norco's world is how it provides a very grounded look into the future, a strange one, but still one that's relatable, moreso than any other sci-fi world I've experienced. The story is equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious. I loved this game, and I'll be playing it again soon.
